About Me

I’m Peter Wilkinson and I own and run Perfect Garden. I was born in July 1971 and from an early age I was captivated by the wonderful world of horticulture.  I have been designing and constructing gardens and landscapes for 30 years.

In my spare time, when I’m not in the garden, I spend time with my family and enjoy walking in the countryside, taking inspiration from the natural landscape.  I also spend time researching and visiting historical gardens of Europe and the Middle East to develop my understanding and knowledge of the history of gardens and gardening.

I started the Perfect Garden project in 2010 as a new challenge to further pursue my passion for garden design, and creating beautiful, unique outdoor spaces that harmonize with the surrounding landscape.

Using my vast experience of the landscape industry enables me to produce designs which not only look good on paper but are also fit for purpose. It also enables me to work closely with clients and contractors to ensure that all specifications are adhered to and that the quality of workmanship is of superior standard, giving you, the client, peace of mind with what can sometimes be a rather daunting experience.

If you are unsure of the role of a garden designer, or why you should consider employing a garden designer, please visit the Why? page of the website for more information.

The History

Born into a locally renowned horticultural family, I spent much of my childhood helping out at the family business; a landscaping and lawn turf business, and also a garden centre and florist shop. It was here, under the close supervision of my Grandma, and Auntie Mary, that I developed a real passion for plants and their habitat. By the age of eleven I was juggling school work with the need to learn more about horticulture, and began growing the fruit and vegetables and all the bedding plants to sell in the family shop.

I left school with no other thoughts than to join the family business and embarked on a career in horticulture and the landscaping industry.

Since attending Myerscough Horticultural College, my career has gone from strength to strength. By using this valuable education and combining it with practical, hands on experience, I have gained much accreditation within the landscape industry, building many trusted relationships along the way, and often advising architects and landscape architects on contractual and practical issues which have arisen.

I have been involved in a diverse and bewildering array of projects over the years, ranging from the smallest of gardens to the largest estates, and have been fortunate enough to be involved in re-constructing sections of the Pennine Bridleways, conservation projects such as Great Crested Newt preservation, creating native wild flower meadows, native wetland restoration, and more recently helping to design and construct outdoor play areas/classrooms and sensory gardens for local authorities, constructing commercial and domestic water features, and maintaining both public and private sector grounds, but perhaps one of the most diverse projects I have been asked to be involved with was the construction of the Dinosaur Park and re-development of the free flight aviary at Blackpool Zoo.

It is this wealth of knowledge and experience that I am now re-investing in Perfect Garden
